Baojun, a subsidiary of the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture in China, published a revealing teaser of a mysterious EV. The as yet unnamed SUV combines off-road styling with a very small footprint, looking like a concept car that is close to production status.
The EV has a boxy silhouette with traditional off-roader proportions, reminiscent of a baby Ford Bronco. It is however very compact, most likely smaller in size than a Suzuki Jimny. The exterior theme is a rectangle with rounded edges which is repeated several times all around the bodywork.

At the front, we can see a Honda-style grille panel with hidden quad LEDs on each side and the total absence of any emblem. Other characteristics include the short overhangs, the unpainted off-road bumpers, the short bonnet, the boxy wheelarches, and the integrated roof rack. The doors are occupying the largest portion of the bodywork on the profile, something that is indicative of the short wheelbase of the vehicle. Finally, the rear end features modern LED taillights and a rugged design for the tailgate.
The video teaser was shown during the market launch of the 2023 Baojun KiWi which is the updated version of the E300. Baojun also shared the video on their official page on the Chinese social media Weibo. Given the timing of the reveal and the ultra-compact size of the vehicle, it is possible that it will share its platform with the Baojun KiWi and the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
In terms of the powertrain, local media suggest that the off-roader could get dual electric motors, offering all-wheel-drive capability and a combined output of 108 hp (80 kW / 109 PS), which is double the power of the single-motor Baojun KiWi. The SUV could also benefit from a large battery sourced from the KiWi Plus, with a capacity of 31.9 kWh allowing a decent EV range rating that could exceed the 300 km (186 miles) mark.
As reported by Car News China, the EV is expected to debut in concept form at the Guangzhou Auto Show this November. Sales are rumored to start in China in the first quarter of 2023.
