Like Ford Mustangs and costume parties? If you do and you’re anywhere near Detroit you could be in with a chance of winning yourself a brand new 2024 Mustang.
The competition is called Best Stang Decade and it’s part of The Stampede, the official September 14 reveal of the seventh-generation Mustang taking place at the Detroit Auto Show. Visitors are being encouraged to dress up in clothes that represent their favorite period in Mustang history and have their pictures taken at one of the photo booths.
A panel of fashion, arts and entertainment judges will assess competitors’ attire and select two finalists from each of the Mustang’s six decades, with the top three being awarded prizes. The third-place winner (are you still a winer if you’re third?) gets a hot lap in a new Mustang next to a Ford Performance driver, while the person in second spot gets an early drive of the 2024 Mustang.

But the overall winner gets to take a brand new Mustang GT home, at least for a while. Technically, first prize is a paid-for two-year lease on an all-new seventh generation Mustang, so you don’t actually get to own the car, but that’s still a pretty cool reward for having your photograph taken looking like a fool.
Mustang owners who want to take part in The Stampede can register online, the action starting at 15.00 at Ford World Headquarters before moving out in convoy to the new car’s unveiling at Detroit’s Hart Plaza. And owners in other states are being encouraged to join a cross-country road trip to the event that starts in Tacoma, Washington, on September 6, taking in nine states and making 12 stops (presumably plus a few more for fuel) before landing in Detroit in time for the festivities.
Don’t worry if you haven’t got a Mustang or can’t make it to Detroit, though. Ford is broadcasting The Stampede, including the 20.00 EDT reveal on its social media channels.
