Have you ever looked at a scooter and thought, ‘Nah, that’s not enough wheels‘? Then you’re in luck, because the D-Fly Dragonfly is here in all its four-wheeled glory, and is being touted as the world’s first hyperscooter.

D-Fly, a British start-up that aims to become the Segway of the scooter sector, has introduced the Dragonfly — a safer electric-driven scooter with a spec sheet that reads like it was off a high-end car.

It features fully independent dual-wishbone suspension at all four corners, a unique carbon-fiber platform, and 10-inch slick tires. To ensure you’re kept comfy on your rides and can handle its fair share of curb hopping, the hydraulic suspension is fully adjustable and features full axle articulation.

There are also “automotive grade” headlights, turn signals, a horn, a digital trip computer, and spoken navigation. Worried about leaving it unattended while you go about your day’s activities? Well, for security, there’s an alarm, a GPS tracker, and a smart locker that disables the electric drive until a PIN is entered.

It also features a variation on four-wheel steering, with the company’s patented 3-Dimensional Full-Tilt Steering System engaging all four wheels at once. According to D-Fly, you can adjust the steering and amount of lean you get to suit your riding style.

Available in two trims, the “DF” is aimed at urban mobility, while the “DFX” is purportedly designed with off-roading in mind — however, the latter’s expedition additions are limited to wider fenders, added racks to the front and rear, and handguards.

Power for both models comes from two 550W (equal to 0.74 HP) electric motors driving each axle, with D-Fly claiming the scooter will push up to 1,650 watts (2.2 HP) of peak power to all four wheels. That should be enough to reach and maintain speeds of up to 25 mph (40 km/h). Speed can also be limited via three modes as well.

The battery capacity has not yet been revealed, but the Dragonfly should be able to cover 80 km (50 miles) on a single charge. The battery can be juiced up via a 48V input, with a full charge taking around 3 hours. Greater versatility is offered thanks to a swappable battery, which is located in the stem.

Pricing, Availability

The D-Fly Dragon Fly is available to preorder on Indiegogo, for £1,750 (about $1,900 at current exchange rates) for the DF, and £2,100 (around $2250) for the DFX.
