The GMC Hummer EV is continuing to be a hit, so much so that the car manufacturer has received more than 90,000 reservations for it.
While speaking with Autoblog at the ongoing Detroit Auto Show, GMC marketing director Rich Latek revealed that the number of reservations placed has been growing each and every quarter. That’s impressive, particularly since it is more common for reservations to gradually slow for a new vehicle after its release.
Most of those placing a reservation for a GMC Hummer EV truck or SUV are also going through with the purchase. In fact, Latek revealed that over 90 per cent are converting their reservations into orders, adding that many of those ordered are for higher-trim models.

Many of those with a reservation will have to wait quite a long to take delivery, however. In July, it was confirmed that the car manufacturer had more than 77,000 orders for the EV but that at the time, it was building just a dozen units each day. A GMC spokesman said there was nothing to be concerned about as models currently being built used battery cells sourced from LG Energy Solution and that by late summer, the vehicle would start to use cells manufactured at the Ohio facility being established by GM and LG.
“Our ability to satisfy that demand is only going to improve as we bring on vertical integration of battery cell production,” the spokesman said. “You can expect to see hundreds of deliveries grow to thousands later this year.”
