Jeep has confirmed the death of the EcoDiesel engine in the Wrangler, following an e-mail to dealers earlier this month.
As expected, the diesel is getting a final sendoff in the form of a limited edition known as the Wrangler Rubicon FarOut.
It features a satin black grille, body-color fender flares, and unique 17-inch aluminum wheels. Other highlights include a “3.0 Diesel” hood graphic, exclusive “3.0 D” badging, and the LED Lighting Group.

Inside, buyers will find black leather seats with contrasting red accents. They’re joined by all-weather floor mats and the Cold Weather Group, which adds heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. The special edition also comes equipped with the Trailer Tow package and the Safety Group, which adds ParkSense Rear and a Blind-Spot Monitoring System with Rear-Cross Path Detection.
The Wrangler Rubicon FarOut will be available to order through November and deliveries are slated to begin in the fourth quarter of this year. The automaker didn’t say why they were discontinuing the diesel, but noted the 2023 Wrangler will be offered with four different powertrains ranging from a plug-in hybrid to a 6.4-liter V8 that develops 470 hp (350 kW / 477 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque.
While the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine is dying in the Wrangler, where it produced 260 hp (194 kW / 264 PS) and 442 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque, it will continue to live on in the Gladiator. This is somewhat curious and the model will become the last truck to offer the engine as Ram will drop it in January.
