The Kia Niro grew in size for the 2023 model year, and its price has grown, too. The new model will start at $27,785, the brand revealed today, which is $1,800 more than the first-generation model sold for in 2022.
For their money, customers will get the Niro Hybrid LX model, which is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that is coupled to a 32kW electric motor. Together, they pump out 139 hp (104kW/141 PS) and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque across the model’s simplified lineup.
For 2023, Kia has reduced the number of trim levels available to three. Although the base Niro LX remains, the mid-range Kia Niro is now called the EX and starts at $30,385. The highest trim, meanwhile, is the Niro SX, and it starts at $33,785 (all prices include $1,295 destination fee), just $500 more than the previous range topper, the EX Premium.

The new generation of Kia Niro was introduced in April and borrows a few design cues from the 2019 Kia HabaNiro concept. As mentioned above, it has also grown in size for 2023, which means more interior volume for occupants and luggage.
It also gets a fancier interior that offers fascinating new touches. Along with the available dual panoramic display and the transferable digital key technology, the vehicle now features an avant-garde interior design with seats covered in a bio polyurethane and Tencel, which is made of eucalyptus leaves.
The model also comes standard with a suite of safety features like forward collision avoidance assistance, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic collision avoidance tech, and more. The higher EX and SX trims, meanwhile, can also be fitted with the Touring Package, which adds attractive styling touches, according to the brand.
Just one of three powertrains offered for the Niro, the standard hybrid gets an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency rating of 53 MPG combined. Kia will also offer plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions of the Niro in 2023. The first 2023 Niros are arriving at dealerships around the U.S.
