Porsche is looking into a new future and, as a result, it will necessarily have to make some brave new decisions. The one likely to garner the most negative reaction is a new three-row SUV code-named K1.
The range-topping model will be positioned above the Cayenne, according to unnamed American Porsche dealers who spoke to Autonews and saw an official rendering last year during a meeting in the States. .
One person who saw it described the model as a “new style of vehicle that is part sedan, part crossover.” They also described it as having a “rakish” profile, while another said it was “very un-Porsche-like” with a “flat rear design; it’s not anything like the Macan and Cayenne.”

Based on those descriptions, it may be like a handful of new models arriving on the market today, despite not being like any other Porsche. Vehicles that blur the line between crossover and sedan have been coming fast and loose, with Toyota introducing the Crown, Peugeot the 408 coupe crossover, and Volvo’s EX90 coming soon.
Porsche, though, said that the new model will incorporate technology from the Mission R concept that it presented at the Munich auto show last year. That look into the brand’s future featured a 920-volt electrical system to reduce charging times and direct oil-cooled electric motors that the K1 is likely to use, too.
Given its size, the large SUV will sell for a premium price and appeal to new buyers, something Porsche’s chairman, Oliver Blume, said the company was interested in seeking out this summer.
“We are targeting the higher-margin segments in particular and aim to tap into new sales opportunities,” Blume said. He also went on record to describe a “a very sporty interpretation of an SUV” that was coming to the brand.
The new model that will be positioned above the Cayenne and aimed at the U.S. market could arrive as early as 2026.
