A fire risk has prompted Mercedes-Benz to issue a recall for more than 6,700 C-Class models in the United States.
A recall notice reveals that water could enter a particular section of the trunk in 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class models. If it does so, moisture could enter into the signal acquisition and actuation module, potentially triggering a short circuit and increasing the risk of a fire.
A short circuit could also trigger other issues. For example, the exterior light at the rear of the luxury sedan could fail, the rear seatbacks may fold unintentionally, and the rearview camera may not function correctly, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

Owners of impacted vehicles may receive a warning depending on what function any moisture may impact.
Involved in the recall are a total of 6,752 C300 models that were manufactured between June 24, 2021 and May 13, 2022.
Mercedes-Benz was first made aware of potential water ingress issues shortly after the 2022 C-Class was introduced in the United States on May 6, 2022. During investigations, the German car manufacturer discovered that opening the trunk while it is wet could cause water to drip into the trunk and that this water could come in contact with the SAM. Mercedes-Benz is aware of 42 warranty claims in the U.S. market received from May 17, 2022 through August 23, 2022 regarding the issue but isn’t aware of any crashes, injuries, and third party damage triggered by the defect.
Impacted owners will be notified before November 11, 2022 and instructed to bring their vehicle to their nearest dealership where a cover will be fitted over the SAM.
