Sure, the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 is not the most powerful performance car on the market, nor is it even the quickest variant of the 911. However, it is unquestionably a jewel of the automotive industry and one of the most well-rounded sports cars available.

On a track, the 911 GT3 is a well-known performer but in the most recent performance test conducted by AutoTopNL, it decided against taking the car to the track and instead brought it to an unrestricted section of the German Autobahn.

Driving the car is a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated six-cylinder with 503 hp at a screaming 8,400 rpm and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque at 6,250 rpm. During its testing of the GT3, the popular YouTube channel performed a number of high-speed runs that show just how comfortable the car is sitting at over 250 km/h (155 mph) and just how fast it is when the throttle is pinned and it is pushed through to the top of the seventh gear.

During this test, the car’s digital speedometer topped out at 319 km/h or 198 mph, just 1 mph short of Porsche’s claimed top speed for the 911 GT3. Given how well Porsche engineers all of its cars, it’s hardly a surprise to see just how stable the GT3 remains at these speeds and just how easy it appears to be to drive.

While the high-speed runs were performed on unrestricted sections of the Autobahn, they still carried some risks. Most notably, the runs were done on sections of the motorway with just two lanes, something we wouldn’t recommend. While it’s not particularly hard to keep a car in its lane at such speeds, you can never be sure of what the slower-moving cars you’re overtaking might do, hence why it’s a little safer to do these speeds when the Autobahn opens up to at least three lanes in each direction.
