Navigation services have offered to give you directions as read by Darth Vader, aliens from the video game Halo, and celebrities. But now, Waze has found the most reprehensible, terrifying, upsetting way to give directions: in business speak.
The Google-owned navigation app has decided that, now that the summer is done and the world of responsibilities and meetings that could have been emails await us, it’s time to add a “Biz Jargon” setting to its list of options.
“Waze is here to help you brush up on your office lingo—the good, the funny and the ridiculous,” Waze wrote in a blog post. “Inspired by offices everywhere (both virtual and physical) the latest experience from Waze pokes fun at the people we can all become at work—acronym-slinging, jargon-parroting, catchphrase machines.”

That means that, if you drive past your turn and Waze needs to prompt you to turn around, it will say “Make a U-turn: Or what I call ‘circling back’.” It can also say “Sorry, I was on mute, are we waiting for anyone else?” and deliver many more amusing and tortuously-too-real instructions.
You can also choose from a trio of Moods, be it Business, Business Casual, Productive, or my personal favorite, Unproductive. And to cap it all off, you can turn your car into a paper airplane (or, as it’s referred to here, an “interoffice memo”) on the map screen.
Waze is pushing the envelope here, leveraging this unique jargon option, which will be available all around the globe in both English (U.K. and U.S.) and French. Don’t table the discussion about whether or not to download this option for too long, though, because it will only be available for a limited time.
Time to prep for a big Q4. Brush up on your office lingo with the new Biz Jargon experience in the Waze app. https://t.co/K9Jkel47TZ pic.twitter.com/hBWPlEJYqq
