The 2023 Honda Civic Type R will cost a fair amount more than the model that it replaces. Starting at $43,990 ($42,895 MSRP plus a $1,095 destination charge), it costs over $5,000 more than the previous Civic Type R.
The new model claims that it has been improved in a number of ways, including the engine, which has been massaged to make 315 hp (235 kW/319 PS) at 6,500 rpm and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, 9 hp and 15 lb-ft (20 Nm) of torque over the model it replaces.
Honda adds that thanks to a turbocharger that generates pressure over more of the rev range, increased air intake flow, and a more efficient exhaust system, the power the engine generates can be applied to the road more effectively.

That appears to have affected its fuel economy slightly, as the 2023 Civic Type R is rated by the EPA at 22 MPG city, 28 MPG highway, and 24 MPG combined. The 2021 model, meanwhile, was rated at 22 MPG in the city, 28 MPG on the highway, but at 25 MPG combined.
That’s unlikely to matter to buyers as much as the improved handling. That comes thanks to a longer wheelbase, that gives the new model a smoother ride and greater stability at high speeds. With a wider track and retuned suspension, the 2023 Civic Type R also claims to offer a better steering feel.
Speaking of feel, the brake booster has been retuned to give your foot more of it, and the calipers changed to reduce unsprung weight. Brake cooling has also been improved to allow you to play in the corners for longer.
With models now arriving at dealerships, potential customers may finally be able to see the car in the flesh. When they do, they will see it in one of just five available colors: Championship White (a Type R exclusive), Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl, and Sonic Grey Pearl.
