The new BMW M3 CS will serve as the ultimate expression of the G80 M3, serving as the four-door counterpart to the M4 CSL. And it seems as though this car’s debut could be right around the corner, as our spy photographers were able to capture it with less camouflage than ever before.

Unlike the M4 CSL, which has a host of altered aesthetics to differentiate it from the normal M4, the M3 CS appears to be largely the same as the regular M3 save for the new front end. There is the chance that BMW could fit it with the M4 CSL’s ducktail spoiler and a version of its OLED taillights before its debut, but if this nearly-finished prototype is anything to go off of, it doesn’t look as though it will.

Don’t let that fool you, though, as the CS will still be packing significantly more performance than the car it’s based on. The expectation as of right now is that it will be powered by an uprated version of the standard M3’s twin-turbo 3.0L inline six making around as much, if not exactly the same amount of power as the M4 CSL. Should that be the case, output would be in the realm of 543 hp (550 PS / 411 kW) and 479 lb-ft (649 Nm), which is 40 hp (41 PS / 30 kW) more than the M3 Competition, but no more torque.

Other invisible under-the-skin changes are likely to include a stiffer chassis, revised suspension components with new tuning, stickier tires, and better brakes. The car will also undergo some substantial weight loss, namely in the form of the roof, hood, trunk lid, and bucket seats all being made of carbon fiber. Looking at the lightweighting efforts of the last M3 CS and the current M4 CSL, these changes will likely amount to a weight savings of around 150-175 lbs (68-79 kg) on the new M3 CS.
