2024 BMW M5 Spied Inside And Out, Sports New Steering Wheel And Curved Display

The 2024 BMW M5 continues to reveal its secrets and now we’re getting a glimpse inside the cabin.

A significant departure from its predecessor, the redesigned M5 has an all-new flat-bottom steering wheel with multi-colored contrast stitching. We can also see thinner spokes as well as new switchgear.

The biggest change is the addition of a Curved Display, which should consist of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment system. Elsewhere, there’s a minimalist dashboard and an evolutionary center console.

While the console looks familiar, it features an assortment of new controls. Details are hard to make out, but we can see a minimalist shifter and a more modern iDrive controller. They’re joined by gloss black trim and red accented buttons, which recall those found on the current model.

Moving outside, we can see an aggressive grille that echoes the one found on the M4 CSL. The sports sedan also has vertical air curtains and sweptback LED headlights.

The aggressive front fascia gives way to an evolutionary profile, which is notable for featuring a charging port on the driver’s side front fender. We can also see lightweight wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system. Rounding out the highlights are sporty side skirts, a subtle rear spoiler, and a four-tailpipe exhaust system.

If the charging port wasn’t a dead giveaway, the 2024 BMW M5 will be a high-performance plug-in hybrid. It’s slated to share its powertrain with the XM, which features a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, an electric motor, and a small lithium-ion battery pack. This setup gives the crossover a combined output of 644 hp (480 kW / 653 PS) and 590 lb-ft (799 Nm) of torque as well as an electric-only range of approximately 30 miles (48 km).

However, BMW has already hinted at more powerful XM variants including a Red Label with an estimated 738 hp (550 kW / 748 PS) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. As a result, we can expect a serious jump in performance as the current M5 has 592 hp (441 kW / 600 PS).
