The new Alpine A110 R Fernando Alonso is a slightly sportier and ultra-exclusive take on the hardcore version of the brand’s two-seat sportscar that the two-time Formula 1 champion himself has approved.
A few subtle exterior and interior changes have been made to mark the 32 Fernando Alonso editions apart from the rest of the herd, while a new patented height-adjustable suspension set-up is unique to the limited-run car and features input by Alonso himself.
Of course, one has to wonder just when the A110 R Fernando Alonso edition was signed off on. Just two months ago, the Spaniard sent the Formula 1 silly season into overdrive by announcing his departure from the Alpine F1 team at the end of 2022 with a move to Aston Martin — but that’s a debate for another time.
Multiple Mountain Paths
The 32 limited-edition A 110 Rs will each feature a host of changes to both the interior and exterior. Starting off with the cabin, the Alonso edition features orange on the steering wheel and the door straps (the R omitting the A110 S’ door handles for weight-saving reasons).
The rest of the interior features copious amounts of black microfiber, while the seats have the racing driver’s signature embroidered into them, along with a blue-orange-yellow flag on the door panels.

As a finishing piece for the interior, Fernando’s philosophy has been laser-cut into the visor, allowing you to be reminded that “there is more than one path to the top of the mountain” every time you’re momentarily blinded by a setting sun.
There’s also a numbered tribute plaque found on the center console. In addition to the number, each plaque will bear both the year and circuit of one of Alonso’s wins, with every one being unique for each of the Spaniard’s 32 wins.
Alpine Exterior
Fernando Alonso is said to have been behind the exterior shade being altered for his edition — in which case it was magnanimous of him to retain the Racing Matte Blue as found on the Alpine F1 car, rather than, say, British Racing Green.
The front and rear carbon bonnets that are exposed on the standard A110 R are partially painted for the Alonso edition, while there’s a darker shade for the rear of the car with an Alpine Racing graphic design.

There’s more orange on the racing calipers, harking back to Alonso’s historic racing colors, and a blue-orange-yellow flag is found on the rear quarter windows. The wheel rims feature grey edges, the rear shield and spoiler supports are anodized black, and finally, there’s a Varnish-protected Fernando Alonso signature that sits just atop the left hood vent.
Alonso-Approved Suspension
Despite likely destined to end up as a collector’s item, on the off-chance an owner decides to take one of these cars to the track, they’ll be rewarded by a new adjustable suspension set-up. Just like what is found on the standard A110 R, the car can be quickly lowered by 10 mm for circuit action. The Fernando Alonso edition is five percent stiffer, too, with the set-up approved by the racer at his home circuit in Barcelona.
Other than that, the special edition remains mechanically similar to the A110 R, a lightweight and hardcore version of Alpine’s rear-wheel drive sportscar that features a 297 hp (300 PS) and 251 lb-ft (340 Nm) 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.
Pricing has not yet been revealed, but with just 32 examples being produced, one for each of Alonso’s career F1 wins (semi-ironic seeing that although many were in a Renault, none were in an Alpine), we expect them to be snapped up sharpish. Buyers also get their hands on a collectible freebie thrown in, too — a replica racing helmet signed by Alonso.
