BMW has rolled out an over-the-air software update for some 3.8 million vehicles around the world, bringing with it a host of new and improved features.

The new Remote Software Upgrade 07-22 brings with it 10 main elements, the first of which are extensive improvements to the ‘charging route’ function of the brand’s EVs. This system optimizes a route for charging as soon as a destination is entered if the current range isn’t enough to reach the destination. BMW says it has improved the system’s algorithm and the speed at which routes are calculated.

Elsewhere, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant has been updated and can transform into 20 different icons. BMW customers can also activate Amazon Alexa in BMW Operating System 8 after the software update.

Moreover, the Front Collision Warning system of the iX and 2-Series Active Tourer has been improved and can now react to oncoming vehicles to prevent collisions.

Rounding out the updates it the availability of a QLOCKTWO time display on all BMW models with Operating System 8 and a host of improvements to the Lane Keeping Assistant function in models with BMW Operating System 7.
