It seems that beach buggies are slowly getting back into fashion in the electric era. Following the return of the Meyers Manx and the Mini Moke, there is a new kid on the block coming from the Netherlands: the Coastrunner EV.
The electric buggy was designed by Savage Rivale, the Dutch brand behind the 2009 Roadyacht GTS sportscar and the Mirage 18GT yacht. This one is quite different from their previous work, looking like a doorless SUV with an open-air cabin and a 215 mm (8.5 inches) ground clearance.

The Coastrunner is based on an aluminum spaceframe chassis, with a steel roll-cage around the cabin and steel bars on both ends. The lightweight structure and the composite body means that the buggy tips the scales at 800 kg (1,764 pounds). The design is quite modern with sculpted fenders, thick side sills, LED lights, a canvas roof that can be folded, and rugged bumpers with skid plates.
The exposed and waterproof cabin has four seats, an audio system, a three-spoke steering wheel with buttons sourced from the VW Group, an infotainment touchscreen, and an analog instrument cluster. Wood accents on the dashboard, floors, and rear shelf accentuate the yacht-like atmosphere, while the frunk can house a 60-liter fridge for your snacks and beverages.
Power comes from a single rear-mounted electric motor that produces 67 hp (50 kW / 68 PS) and 200 Nm (147.5 lb-ft) of torque allowing a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). A 20 kWh battery mounted on the floor provides a range of around 200 km (124 miles). According to the company, a full charge takes only 30 minutes although the type of charger was not specified.
Savage Rivale didn’t announce pricing for the Coastrunner EV, but said that production is already underway with 13 remaining build slots for 2023.
