Cars damaged and destroyed by Hurricane Ian have started to appear at auctions in Florida and this 2021 Audi R8 was one of the storm’s unfortunate victims.
Currently up for grabs through Copart where a highest bid of $50,500 had been placed at the time of writing, this R8 is in a very sad state. It has been given a Certificate of Destruction in Florida, meaning it can only be sold for parts or scrap metal.
A look at the photos provided of the German supercar indicates that at one point, it was fully submerged in salt water during the Hurricane, so it’s hardly a surprise that it isn’t salvageable.

The salt bath appears to have killed all the electronics and it’s questionable whether the 5.2-liter V10 engine or the transmission can be saved. However, with the exception of some paint and clear coat damage, it’s possible that some of the body panels could be saved, stripped back and used as spare parts.
Additionally, we suspect that the black and red wheels could be salvaged and it’s possible that the brakes could also be removed, cleaned, rebuilt and sold.
The interior looks to have been cleaned prior to the mid-engined supercar crossing the auction block but given the extensive water damage, there probably aren’t that many parts that can be saved from the cabin.
Unfortunately, this is far from the only exotic that was destroyed by Hurricane Ian. A rare McLaren P1, one of just 375 examples worldwide, was also caught up in the devastation.
