Ineos Grenadier Enters Production, First Deliveries Set For December

It’s relatively easy to introduce a new vehicle, but getting it into production is another story. However, Ineos Automotive has achieved what so many others struggle with as the company has started building the Grenadier.

The first SUVs are now rolling off the assembly line in Hambach, France at a former Mercedes-Benz factory that was acquired in 2020.

While the start of production marks a major milestone for Ineos, it’s not exactly smooth sailing. In particular, the company noted “global supply chain issues continue to constrain output.” However, customer deliveries are slated to begin this December.

In a statement, Ineos Automotive Commercial Director Mark Tennant said, “We’ve come a long way since the project kicked off in 2017 and this is a landmark moment for Ineos Automotive as a vehicle manufacturer.” He added, “To get to this point is a testament to the resilience and hard work of the entire Ineos Automotive team, our development partners and our suppliers – for which we thank them all as we now look forward to making our first deliveries to customers.”

As a refresher, the Grenadier is a rugged off-roader that is available as a stripped down Utility Wagon and a more luxurious Station Wagon. The latter variant starts at £52,000 and offers BMW-sourced 3.0-liter straight-six engines. The petrol variant produces 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, while the diesel develops 246 hp (183 kW / 249 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. The engines are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, a two-speed transfer case, and a permanent four-wheel drive system.

The Grenadier also features ladder frame construction, a center differential lock, and beefy skid plates. Other highlights include Recaro seats and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.
