Lexus RX “Ruby Red Rims” Rides On Massive Wheels Created By Fashion Designer Harris Reed

Lexus is known for unveiling one-offs in collaboration with artists and fashion designers. The latest example is a special Lexus RX by fashion designer Harris Reed, who created a set of “Ruby Red Rims” inspired by Dorothy’s ruby red slippers in “The Wizard of Oz”.

The Lexus RX “Ruby Red Rims” concept features wheels with solid aluminum backs and gloss-sealed glitter that lights up with the help of LEDs.They also look absolutely massive, filling up the SUV’s wheel arches The center caps are shaped after a ruby core and a large number of fins with helical shapes dissipate the light which changes colors.

According to Harris Reed, Dorothy’s ruby red slippers in the popular fantasy novel are an interpretation of “choosing your own path and pursuing a new journey down the red brick road”. The fashion designer added: “As a gender-fluid designer, I’ve always been fueled and inspired by choosing the path less traveled”.

While this particular Lexus RX won’t be going far off the beaten track with its massive and fragile-looking glowing shoes, it certainly looks as unique as it gets. Besides the new set of wheels, the SUV also got a custom livery with a red-painted front and a black-painted tail, plus “Ruby Red Rims” lettering on the front doors.

The design of the wheels was also inspired by two of the signature hats in Reed’s Spring 2023 collection. The one-off Lexus RX with “Ruby Red Rims” debuted at W Magazine’s 50th-anniversary party in New York and will be making additional appearances throughout the US in 2022 and in 2023.
