Toyota Indonesia dropped the first teaser for the all-new third-generation Innova that will debut in November. The model will retain the three-row minivan silhouette but this time it will be based on the TNGA architecture instead of its predecessor’s ladder-frame underpinnings that were shared with the Hilux pickup.
The teaser reveals the front end of the Innova showing a new hexagon grille, sharper headlights, taller bumper intakes, and what appears to be a skid plate. Not much of the side view is visible, but the front fenders are more sculpted than before. Overall, the new Innova looks a lot more rugged than the outgoing model, thanks to the SUV-style stance.

Besides the design overhaul, the big news is that the new Innova will ride on the TNGA-C architecture that is underpinning an array of models including the Corolla. The FWD platform will be stretched to comply with the three-row minivan status of the Innova which is expected to measure around 4.7 m (185 inches) long.
The unibody structure will also bring a number of benefits compared to its predecessor’s ladder-frame RWD underpinnings, including improved driving dynamics, modern safety tech, and extra room inside the cabin due to the lack of a transmission tunnel and the transverse placement of the engine (instead of longitudinal). Speaking of powertrains, Toyota hasn’t revealed much but we expect the new Innova to be offered with petrol and hybrid engines, dropping the truck-sourced diesel option.
The new model is rumored to adopt the Innova Zenix nameplate in Indonesia and the Innova Hycross name in India. As reported by Autocar India, the new Toyota Innova will also be rebadged by Maruti Suzuki, featuring slightly different styling cues. A similar exchange happened recently with the Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV twins.
