More than 3,000 Bentley Bentayga models sold in the United States have been hit with a recall due to a software bug found within the infotainment system.
A recall notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that many Bentayga models will display a white screen when reverse is selected, instead of the rearview camera image. Not displaying the rearview camera increases the risk of a crash, the safety agency states.
The British car manufacturer first became aware of a potential issue on August 19, 2022, after discovering the rearview camera malfunction may not comply with federal safety standards. Over the following months, it identified a single occurrence of the issue in the American market, and on September 28, the decision was made to issue a recall.

A total of 3,134 examples of the Bentayga are involved in the recall, consisting of 1,472 models from 2021 and 1,662 from 2022. All impacted vehicles were manufactured between July 10, 2020, and August 31, 2022.
Bentley will notify dealers and customers on or before December 2, 2022. Dealerships will update the infotainment software in a process that will take approximately 3.5 hours. The update will be performed free of charge. The carmaker has been holding new Bentayga models in production until they are ready to receive the software update.
This is not the first time the Bentley Bentayga has been recalled. In 2021, certain examples of the luxury SUV were recalled alongside the Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe because lock nuts on the rear axle’s trailing arm may not have been manufactured correctly and could break under stress.
