The nice thing about owning a Porsche sports car is that you’re nearly guaranteed to own a classic, be that now or in the future. A new Porsche online service is offering to tell you the history of that classic.

The automaker recently launched its vehicle documentation website, which allows the owners of classic vehicles to request a Porsche Production Specification (PPS) report from the comfort of their home (or office, I’m not your boss).

The PPS contains the original production card specification of your vehicle, including optional equipment, exterior and interior colors, engine and transmission type, the production completion date, and the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (when available). The service is available for all Porsche VINs and can be ordered online.

For those who want to go a little deeper into the story of their Porsche, the manufacturer also offers the Classic Technical Certificate. This is a little more involved, so owners must go into the dealership to get it done.

Those willing to go in, though, get their car inspected by a qualified technician who can determine if all of the original parts remain and which, if any, were replaced. It can also ensure that the engine and transmission numbers match the original records.

The CTC comes with a technical evaluation of the interior, exterior, the drive system, the underbody, and the suspension. Professional photos are taken during the process, and the report comes in a “handsome package” that Porsche says can be shown off at your next meetup.

As a result of the extra steps, the Porsche Classic Technical Certificate is more expensive than the Porsche Production Specification. The former costs $500, while the latter is a reasonable $125, plus applicable taxes. In addition, owners of 2019 model year vehicles can get the original Monroney sticker from MyPorsche for free, while owners of model year 2020 vehicles can get their personalized Monroney.
