Volvo has paused sales of the S60 sedan in the UK while evaluating the future of its BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class rival.
As good as the Volvo S60 is, sales have dropped 51 per cent so far this year compared to 2021, hitting 16,797 units including the V60 estate. Interestingly, British sales of the V60 continue.
“No decision has yet been made about future model plans,” a Volvo spokesperson said when asked about the S60’s future. “We will communicate any updates as appropriate. We’re continually re-evaluating our product portfolio and as part of this process have temporarily removed the S60 from sale in the UK.”
Autocar notes that Volvo may have also paused local S60 sales so it can focus on converting its South Carolina factory to support production of electric vehicles, the first of which will be the EX90 SUV set to launch in 2023.
The Swedish car manufacturer hasn’t paused sales of the larger Volvo S90 and V90 estate in the UK.
Just two variants of the S60 have been available in the UK. The entry-level model started at £44,005 and was equipped with a mild-hybrid petrol engine with 246 hp. Those seeking more performance could opt for the S60 Recharge, outfitted with a complex powertrain combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 306 hp and an electric motor churning out 144 hp. A lithium-ion battery with a usable capacity of 14.9 kWh was also featured, giving the car a range of between 47-58 miles (75-94 km).
