Hyundai’s UK marketing team deserves a seat at the hotel bar as they’ve come up with a clever way to promote the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology in the Ioniq 5.
As part of a publicity stunt, the company is planning to open Hotel Hyundai in the Essex countryside on October 19th.
While calling it a hotel is a bit generous, visitors will find a “high-end luxury cabin” that “offers everything guests can expect from a luxury boutique hotel.” Hyundai didn’t go into specifics, but noted everything in the cabin will be powered by an Ioniq 5.

After dropping off their bags, guests can visit the Hotel Hyundai’s bar and restaurant. It promises to have a menu as “innovative and sustainable as the cars powering it, with ingredients sourced locally within Essex.” For those arriving early, there’s an Ioniq 5 coffee lounge where they can pick up a perfectly prepared espresso.
When the sun goes down, guests can head to the cinema which has a car-powered projector and speakers. The Ioniq 5 also powers a popcorn machine for a “true cinema experience.”
Hotel Hyundai is made possible by the Ioniq 5’s V2L technology, which effectively turns the car into a big battery pack. It supplies up to 3.6 kW of juice to power everything from lights to coffee makers and kettles.
Residents of Ireland and Great Britain can enter to win a free one-night stay at the hotel, which includes a three-course dinner and a continental breakfast. Hyundai also noted the idea sprang out of research showing 55% of those surveyed said the “cost-of-living crisis” has made them rethink their future holiday plans.
