The second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT is getting closer to the big reveal and our spy photographers nabbed a fully-camouflaged test car wearing some extra aero components. This particular model could be an “Edition 1” trim that is expected to be offered in limited numbers for the first year of production.

The Edition 1 of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT will most likely include a fixed rear wing. We also expect a more pronounced splitter with additional flicks on the front bumper, alongside black-painted side-sill extensions and rear diffuser.

This particular prototype is painted in a light blue shade, making a nice contrast with the gold-painted brake calipers behind the BBS-style rims hinting at an upgraded braking system. The same exterior color is also available in the SL roadster, which is sharing the same underpinnings with the GT coupe.

Inside, we expect a 2+2 seating layout with a digital cockpit comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and an 11.9-inch infotainment like in the SL. The Edition 1 could get fancier upholstery, Alcantara upholstery, and carbon bits and pieces.

The lack of a charging port on the rear bumper makes us believe that this is an ICE-powered model and not one of the multiple E Performance-badged PHEVs that will be included in the range. The quad trapezoidal tailpipes reveal it is the more powerful 63 trim, as the 53 has been spied with oval-shaped pipes. AMG’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 produces 577 hp (430 kW / 585 PS) and 590 lb-ft (799 Nm) of torque in the sibling SL 63 S, mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and the 4MATIC+ rear-biased AWD system.

The debut of the new Mercedes-AMG GT is expected in late 2022 or early 2023, so in a few months’ time, we will finally lay eyes on the sexy bodywork of the 911-rivaling sportscar.
