Cadillac will give Canadian buyers of the Lyriq help preparing their homes for their EV lifestyle. The company says it will either pay for the installation of a Level 2 home charger at Lyriq buyers’ primary residence or will offer them $750 of free charging at public chargers.

The second option is intended for customers who already have a home charger and will be offered through the FLO network of affiliated public charging locations. The company has the largest number of public charging stations in Canada and will give Cadillac customers access to over 65,000 plugs across North America.

Customers who don’t have a charger at home, meanwhile, will be able to have one installed on Cadillac’s dime. Although every Lyriq comes with a portable dual-level cordset charger, it is intended for 120- or 240-volt outlets and means that owners could have to spend up to three days plugged in to get a full charge.

With the 11.5 kW Ultium PowerUp wall-mounted charging station, meanwhile, the vehicle can charge at rates of up to 19.2 kW, which adds around 83 km (52 miles) of range per hour of charging. That means, says Cadillac, that amount of time required to charge the Lyriq from 0-100 percent goes from up to three days to overnight.

“This offer will elevate our customers’ experience with the Lyriq, helping them make a smoother transition to all-electric driving,” said Shane Peever, Managing Director, Cadillac Canada. “Like the Lyriq itself, the charging experience will set the standard for customers’ EV experiences.”

Indeed, research has found that among American EV owners at least, upgrading to a Level 2 charger at home is one of the decisions that can have the greatest positive impact on the ownership experience.

In addition to the charging perks, Canadian Lyriq buyers will also receive three years of OnStar Connected Services and 72 GB (or three years) of data for use with the vehicle’s Wi-Fi hotspot.
