Lamborghini is releasing new Spotify playlists as a way to connect fans to its trio of engines. The automaker developed three unique playlists, one to match each of its unique engines, and each one is ‘tuned’ to that powerplant. Here’s how to get what Lamborghini calls “the most complete and all-encompassing driving experience.”

Like most supercar manufacturers, Lamborghini puts a great deal of effort into ensuring a crisp and emotionally evocative exhaust note for each of its cars. These new playlists are intended to “juxtapose the sound of the emotive and unleashed engine with songs tuned scientifically to its roar and vibrations.”

To achieve that balance and harmony, Lamborghini sound engineers worked hand in hand with music producer Alex Trecarichi. He utilized ‘fourier transform’, a mathematical formula that decomposes functions into frequency components, to analyze Lamborghini engines.

“This procedure enabled me to find the basic frequencies of the engine coinciding with the three precise phases of its expressiveness: ignition (idling), the 4,000-rpm speed, and at maximum power,” says Trecarichi. For the V12, those frequencies are 92.50 Hz at idle, 98 Hz at 4,000 RPM, and 103.83 Hz at 8,000 RPM.

To that end, Trecarichi included songs that match those frequencies on the Spotify playlist specific to the V12. It’s called The Engine Songs: V12. It includes songs from RICH MORE, Kiasmos, NTO, SUDO, and CatzClaw. Lamborghini’s Noise Vibration and Harshness Whole Vehicle Coordinator, Mario Mautone spoke about why a playlist like this can enhance the experience behind the wheel.

“One of the aspects I pay attention to is the harshness of sound that sets Lamborghini apart,” explains Mautone, “It’s that raw, metallic echo which is then embodied in the psychoacoustic experience, the chemical and emotional response to the sound wave that our brains transform into positive emotions and memories. This is why I associate the sound of the V12 with that of a violin: the instrument par excellence of high notes, capable of a crescendo from loudness to sharpness, and quite similar to what is generated by the Lamborghini V12.”

Other playlists specific to the naturally-aspirated V10 from the Huracan and the twin-turbo V8 in the Urus will come out at a later date. For now, fans can also enjoy seven other playlists related to other Lamborghini products like the Urus or publications like its bespoke magazine. To my ears, the V12 playlist isn’t half-bad.
