MG Cyberster Delayed, Electric Roadster Now Set To Debut In April

MG introduced the Cyberster concept last year and a new report says the production model will be unveiled in April.

According to Autocar, the highly anticipated roadster was originally slated to debut at the Guangzhou Motor Show later this month. However, there were concerns the show could be cancelled or postponed due to China’s strict zero-COVID policy.

As a result, the Cyberster’s unveiling will now take place next year. While we’ll have to wait a little longer to see the model, MG UK’s commercial director Guy Pigounakis told the publication the roadster will be offered with two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive guise. The latter variant promises to offer “very high performance” and will serve as a halo vehicle for the brand.

Pigounakis went on to say the model won’t be a successor to the MG F/TF as it will reside in a “completely different sector of the market.” That suggests the model will be expensive, but that isn’t surprising as electric roadsters are virtually non-existent.

Little is known about the production model, but patent images surfaced over the summer showing the roadster will look less extreme than the concept. That being said, there’s a visual connection between the two and the road-going model will have a curvaceous front fascia, sporty side skirts, and muscular rear haunches.

There’s no word on specifications at this point, but the concept could accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than three seconds and travel up to 497 miles (800 km) on a single charge.
