Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Gains More Features And A Stealthy Black Edition In Japan

Mitsubishi revealed a new trim of the Eclipse Cross in Japan, called “Black Edition” while announcing a series of minor updates for the new model year.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Black Edition joins the larger Outlander with a stealthy treatment inside-out. The Dynamic Shield on the front bumper retains its chrome finish but the grille, skid plates, side skirts, and mirror caps are all painted black, alongside a set of exclusive alloy wheels. Inside we find a combination of glossy black and dark silver trim on the dashboard, center console, instrument cluster, door cards, and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

For 2023, the compact SUV gains an electric tailgate with hands-free operation, heated rear seats, and a USB charging port for the rear passengers. Also, the petrol-powered trims are now fitted with the “My Pilot” ADAS which was already available for the PHEV.

The revised trim structure of the Eclipse Cross includes the P, G, and M main trims, alongside the Black Edition and G Limited Edition specials. All of those are already available to order in Japan, with additional grades scheduled to join the lineup in February 2023. In terms of powertrains, the Eclipse Cross is still offered with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine or with a plug-in hybrid setup comprising a 2.4-liter petrol engine, dual electric motors, and a 13.8 kWh battery.

In Japan, pricing for the updated Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ranges from ¥2,542,100 (around $18,300 in current exchange rates) for the entry-level petrol-powered 2WD model all the way up to ¥4,650,800 ($33,400) for the PHEV 4WD model in the flagship “Black Edition” trim. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross was originally introduced in 2017 and received a facelift in 2020 bringing sharper styling followed by the addition of the plug-in hybrid trim.
