Mitsubishi Ralliart’s Triton Rally Truck Makes Victorious Debut At The Asia Cross Country Rally

A rally-prepped Mitsubishi Ralliart Triton AXCR, first unveiled last March, proved to be quite fast and resilient in its racing debut. The pickup came first in the Asia Cross Country Rally 2022, with a time of 8 hours, 22 minutes, and 42 seconds.

The victorious rally truck with the number #105 was piloted by driver Chayapon Yotha and co-driver Peerapong Sombutwong. A second model with the number #118 finished fifth overall. Both vehicles featured a number of modifications compared to the stock Mitsubishi Triton / L200, including lifted suspension, underbody protection, a snorkel, off-road tires, two full-size spare wheels mounted on the rear bed, and of course a racing livery.

The six-day cross-country rally event in Asia included tarmac, dirt, and mud terrains, with the teams crossing deserts, jungles, rivers, and swamps in the process. After the rally, driver Yotha said: “It was a very tough battle over the six days, but I am very happy to take the overall victory. In order to win among rivals with larger engine displacements, I concentrated on reducing mistakes thoroughly and completing each corner and stage carefully.”

The Asia Cross Country Rally win is a good start for Ralliart’s return to motorsport. Team director Hiroshi Masuoka who is a 21-time participant and two-time champion in the Dakar Rally said: “This was our first attempt to return to the motorsports scene under the name of Ralliart, and it was a very important rally for Mitsubishi Motors“, adding that Mitsubishi Ralliart is considering coming back to the cross-country rally next year.

We hope that Mitsubishi Ralliart’s expertise in motorsports will translate to rugged variants of production models in the near future, creating some competition for the likes of the Ford Ranger Raptor.
