Polestar is eager to build vehicles in Europe but has suggested it might be another five years before it’s possible.
The Swedish car manufacturer currently builds the 2 sedan at Volvo’s Taizhou factory in Luqiao, China while the forthcoming Polestar 3 will be built in both Chengdu, China and Volvo’s factory in Harlestonn, South Carolina. It has also been confirmed that the Polestar 4 will be brought to life at Geely’s Hangzhou Bay, China factory whereas both the Polestar 5 and 6 will be manufactured at a plant in Chongqing, China.
While speaking with Auto News Europe about the company’s production plans, chief executive Thomas Ingenlath suggested the Polestar 7 could be the first model the brand builds in Europe.
“For us, what is important is to come to Europe at some point in time,” he said. “And that could be around the time we start making the Polestar 7.”

However, Ingenlath noted it will be up to Volvo to decide on the best European facility to build the Polestar 7.
“It’s up to Volvo to see where they will put in the cars on the platform and where they would be built,” he said.
Very few details are known about the Polestar 7, including what kind of body style it could adopt. Regardless of the form it takes, it would likely be sold in Europe as well as exported to international markets.
Polestar has a lot on its plate before it can turn its attention to the 7. For starters, it is gearing up to begin production of the Polestar 3 SUV next year and will follow it up with the smaller Polestar 4 SUV. The Polestar 5 will then be launched in 2024 while the Polestar 6 has been penciled in for a launch sometime in 2026.
