A special 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa and a one-of-a-kind timepiece from Porsche Design will be auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s in an online auction running from November 29 to December 14.
The 911 S 2.4 Targa heading to auction has been expertly restored by Porsche Classic and was built as part of the Sonderwunsch program. The exterior of the car is dominated by black but also features ‘Porsche Design’ lettering on both sides and a Targa bar finished in high-gloss platinum.
Found in the cabin of the Porsche are a host of black parts as well as Sport-Tex material finished in a classic checkered pattern in black and cool gray. Porsche Classic also fitted ’50 Years of Porsche Design’ logos to the headrests while the dashboard sports a silver-colored ‘911’ plaque that reads ‘Edition 50 Years of Porsche Design.’ The car also features the signature of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.

“We chose this vehicle because the 911 continues to shape the Porsche legend to this day,” head of Porsche Classic Factory Restoration Uwe Makrutzki said. “It is characterized by outstanding sportiness and conveys an extraordinary driving experience. I was able to see this for myself during the final testing. While the 911 T 2.4 Targa had to make do with 130 hp in its original state, the car’s second birth at the Porsche factory now features the engine, chassis, and brakes of the S version. The top model at the time now draws 190 hp at 6,500 rpm from 2,341 cm3 displacement and features mechanical fuel injection.”
Set to be sold alongside the 911 is a one-off version of the limited anniversary edition Chronograph 1 timepiece. The timepiece has a winding rotor on the back of the case that mimics the design of the Fuchs rims of the Targa from 1972. It also rocks a dial, crown, wristband, and case back with the historic Porsche Design logo.
“The two one-of-a-kind collectibles are just as unique and exceptional as Porsche Design’s heritage,” Porsche Lifestyle Group chief executive Stefan Buescher says. “They embody the fascination and the myth of the automotive lifestyle brand and convey the design philosophy of F. A. Porsche.”
