Polestar has just built the 100,000th example of its all-electric 2 sedan, widely regarded as one of the best EVs currently on sale.
The Swedish car manufacturer commenced production of the 2 some two and a half years ago at Volvo’s Taizhou plant in Luqiao, China. Making this production milestone particularly impressive is the fact that the Polestar 2 is the first electric model produced by the brand. The 100,000th example is heading to a customer in Ireland.
“It’s an amazing achievement – especially given we launched the Polestar 2 during the pandemic,” Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath said. “Thank you to the team and all our customers who have joined us on this exciting journey.”

Auto News Europe reports that the Polestar 2 was the fifth best-selling midsize premium car in Europe through the first nine months of this year. That placed it ahead of the likes of the BMW i4 and combustion-powered Audi A5. Deliveries are up 63 per cent in Europe this year to 17,994 examples.
The Polestar 2 is also Europe’s fifth best-selling premium EV, positioning it ahead of the likes of the Audi Q4 e-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQA, and the electric version of the Volvo XC40. Polestar expects to have delivered 50,000 cars worldwide by the end of 2022.
A number of other EVs will soon join the Polestar 2 in production. The first has been unveiled in the form of the premium Polestar 3 SUV while the carmaker expects to sell 67,000 examples of by 2024. A more affordable and smaller Polestar 4 will then be introduced in 2024 while a Polestar 5 sedan will land in 2025. The company’s gorgeous 6 Roadster will then enter production.
