A 26-year old driver from Swindon has been banned from driving after he was filmed drifting and doing donuts around a roundabout.

As you can see in the video, Daniel Bassett was caught messing around in a first-generation Lexus IS and made at least two passes at the roundabout. The Wiltshire Police noted the incident occurred on May 7th and was filmed by a member of the public.

While the video lasts less than a minute, that was plenty of time for Bassett to rack up driving offenses. He ended up pleading guilty to charges of dangerous driving and magistrates handed down a stiff penalty yesterday.

According to police, Bassett was banned from driving for 15 months and will have to take an “extended driving test” before the ban is lifted. On top of that, he’ll need to complete 200 hours of unpaid work, “attend rehabilitation appointments, and participate in any activity as required by the responsible officer up to a maximum of 15 days.” Last but not least, he got hit with £85 ($102 / €99) in court costs and a £95 ($115 / €110) surcharge.

While Bassett likely thought he was having some harmless fun, Wiltshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Deb Smith said his “actions represented severely reckless behavior and clear danger to those present and the wider public.” Smith added the Wiltshire Police will relentlessly pursue those “creating extremely dangerous situations on our roads whilst participating in disruptive car meets, we will continue to seek the strongest possible sanctions in such cases.”
