Chevrolet has just dropped a 1,004 hp (748 kW) bomb called the COPO Camaro and it’s built to dominate drag strips across the nation. Armed to the teeth with real racing technology, it’s the most powerful and most expensive Camaro ever produced. The only catch is that it’s not street-legal.
Chevrolet will offer the COPO Camaro with three different engine options. A 427ci naturally-aspirated V8 with 470 hp (350 kW) is the base choice. Above that is a 350ci supercharged V8 with 600 hp (447 kW). Each one is dwarfed by the 632ci (10.4-liters) naturally aspirated V8 at the top of the pile. In addition to its massive horsepower rating, it’ll also deliver 876 lb-ft (1,188 Nm) of torque to the rear wheels.
On top of the $135,900 MSRP for the base 632ci COPO Camaro, buyers can add a $30,000 package that includes unique 632 graphics, black bow tie emblems, Black Weld race wheels, and Hoosier drag racing tires. Wheelie bars come standard on every COPO Camaro regardless of engine.

Somewhat hilariously, the 1,004 hp 632 cubic-inch 10.4-liter V8 version of the COPO Camaro is listed as “N/A for NHRA” on the order form. What that means for one’s chances of actually racing it at a sanctioned NHRA event we’re not sure but we’d probably try to sneak one in if given the chance.
Interested parties can either call the COPO build center, email Chevrolet, or submit an order form online. Chevrolet will contact interested parties after a review of their application. Those who secure a build slot will need to submit an initial $15,000 deposit and work out the final price with their dealer and we get the feeling that exactly zero COPO Camaros will go for their MSRP.
One thing we’re sure of is that only the COPO Camaro with the 632 is available in a special Vivid Orange paint color. So here’s the big question? How would you spec your COPO Camaro? Stick with the big block or save some cash on an LSX version? What paint color would you pick? Let us know in the comments below!
