Hyundai has rolled out its heavy-duty XCIENT Fuel Cell truck in Israel, marking its debut in the Middle East.
The Korean manufacturer has entered a partnership with Israeli agency Colmobil, hydrogen producer Bazan and hydrogen refueling station operator Sonol to form a hydrogen value chain in the country. Three of Hyundai’s XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks will be introduced through the program.
The XCIENT Fuel Cell truck is outfitted with a 180 kW hydrogen fuel cell system and can travel over 400 km (250 miles) on a single charge. It will be used to procure parts for Colmobil and typically cover 330 km a day (205 miles).

“We are thrilled to support the Israel government’s strong commitment to build a sustainable future with our hydrogen-powered, heavy-duty XCIENT Fuel Cell truck,” senior vice president and head of Commercial Vehicle Business Innovation of Hyundai Motor Company, Mark Freymueller said. “Establishing the first hydrogen infrastructure in Israel in close collaboration with the country’s key players marks a significant milestone in our efforts to build a sustainable hydrogen value chain around the world. We are confident that our fuel cell trucks will substantially contribute to the acceleration of the energy transition in Israel.”
Israel has committed to cutting its national greenhouse gas emissions by 27 per cent by 2030 and by 85 per cent by 2050 relative to 2015 emission levels.
The Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell truck is already being used in Germany, Switzerland, Korea and New Zealand. In Switzerland, some 47 units are in operation and have covered more than 5 million km.
