Few companies know how to make a standard Porsche even more special than RUF and one of its most compelling creations is heading to auction in January.
What you’re looking at is a 2015 RUF RT12 R that is one of just 13 units produced and one of only two with rear-wheel drive. Interestingly, it was supposed to be sold at Mecum’s 2022 Indy sales event in May but will now be offered up at Mecum’s Kissimmee auction on January 4, 2023.

Driving the RT12 R is a modified example of Porsche’s familiar 3.8-liter flat-six that now sports a pair of KKK turbochargers, a cast alloy intake, titanium connecting rods, Mahle pistons, and bespoke camshafts. It runs on 1.3 bar of boost and churns out 730 hp and 693 lb-ft (940 Nm) of torque, good enough to send it to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds and a 230 mph (370 km/h) top speed, significantly faster than any stock Porsche 911.
Of course, RUF did much more than just modify the 911’s original engine. The sports car has also been equipped with new coilovers at all four corners and sits on center-locking wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires sitting over a set of yellow brake calipers and carbon ceramic discs.
The German tuner and manufacturer also went to town on the exterior design of the car, enhancing the aerodynamics while also giving it some extra flair. Among the most significant changes made include the fitment of a towering rear wing, a distinctive front bumper, unique side skirts, and a revised rear bumper with air extraction vents.
The interior is also quite the sight to behold thanks to carbon fiber-backed seats clad in plaid-pattern material. Mecum notes that this very car was also displayed at the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles as part of a RUF showcase exhibit.
