Remember the Nissan Fairlady Z Proto Customized concept from January 2022? Following the enthusiastic response from the people and the press, Nissan announced a production version that will debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2023. The automaker will also bring a wide range of concept cars including a six-wheeled Roox, a refreshed Cube, eight Caravans plus modified models from Autech and Nismo.
Starting with the Nissan Fairlady Z Customized Edition, the production model looks very similar to the concept car, minus the fender flares. It does however retain the redesigned front bumper proposing an alternative grille to the stock coupe, and the color scheme (orange shade with black accents and black alloy-wheels) inspired by the classic Fairlady Z432R that will also be on display in Tokyo. Another Z-based model that will be present in Nissan’s stand is the Motul Autech Z racecar from the Super GT GT500 class.

The second most interesting debut is the Nissan Roox Suite concept which is based on the kei car, but appears to have six wheels and a stretched silhouette. According to Nissan, the model is “customized to enable special times with loved ones”, which explains the “suite” part of the name. Interestingly, its enlarged and luxurious cabin will feature premium seats and an actual piano!
Moving on, Autech will showcase its own versions of the Serena and the X-Trail with a typical premium sporty flair. The recently revealed sixth-gen Nissan Serena served as the base for the Highway Star Accessory concept with an aluminum-wrapped body, aerodynamic add-ons, an illuminated grille, and extra features inside the cabin. Nismo on the other hand will present a hot variant of the Note Aura inspired by Nissan’s involvement with Formula E, plus another model.
Another interesting exhibit is the “Cube Refreshed & Retro” concept based on the Cube that was discontinued in 2019. The goal of this concept is to show ways of enhancing the appeal of used cars with the help of new components – an interesting scenario in an era of production shortages.
Nissan also announced eight derivatives of the LCV-based Caravan created in collaboration with a Japanese outdoor magazine for the model’s 50th anniversary. One of them is called “Powered Base for Pro”, featuring portable battery packs from the Leaf, solar panels, a sterilizing air-conditioning system, and a movable tool rack for professionals. The last two debuts will be “e-share mobi Kyoto versions” of the fully electric Sakura kei car and Ariya crossover, designed for car-sharing.
We will learn more about the concepts at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2023 which opens its doors on January 13.
