Yet another recall has been issued for the Ford Bronco, this time impacting more than 1,200 models with a side impact sensor that is not properly secured to the vehicle.
Ford has discovered that impacted Bronco models may have a right-hand and/or left-hand side impact sensor that is not properly secured to the vehicle. The recall notice states that an unsecured sensor may not properly detect certain side impact events. This could cause the affected airbags to unintentionally deploy or not deploy when intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

The safety recall report issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration adds that factory personnel identified certain vehicles that required secondary checks for an improper side impact sensor mounting installation. While the issue was detected by the vehicle assembly plant error-proofing process, inspection and repair instructions may have been misunderstood and the side impact sensor mounting assembly may not have been inspected or repaired.
A total of 1,226 Ford Bronco models are involved in the recall, all of which were manufactured between February 19, 2021, and September 16, 2021.
Dealers were notified of the recall on December 15 and owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail between January 23, 2023, and January 27, 2023. They will be instructed to bring their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealership where the side impact sensor attachments will be inspected and repaired as required, free of charge. Ford will also reimburse owners who have paid for the issue to be fixed prior to the recall being issued.
