Having already transformed the Tesla Model X and Model 3 into capable off-roaders, German tuner Delta4x4 has unveiled an off-road version of the Model Y and it’s available to purchase.

While the modifications made to the electric SUV aren’t huge, they do have a dramatic impact on the overall look of the Tesla. For starters, alterations have been made to the suspension system so it now sits 35 mm (1.37 inches) higher than standard, boosting ground clearance to an impressive 220mm (8.7 inches), which is slightly more than what you get from a Suzuki Jimny, no doubt making it that much more suited to off-roading.

Elsewhere, Delta4x4 has equipped the Model Y with a set of distinctive beadlock-style 20-inch Klassik_B wheels finished in matte black and wrapped in Continental Cross Contact ATR mud tires measuring 265/45R20. Ensuring the EV makes a bold statement are flared wheel arches both front and rear that add 60 mm (2.4 inches) to the width of the crossover.

Rounding out the upgrades made by Delta4x4 include the fitment of a large roof rack with an LED light bar and four circular driving lamps positioned on the front fascia, all from PIAA.

As for the cost, the suspension lift kit is priced at €900 (equal to $957 at current exchange rates) the new wheels and tires at €4,500 ($4,787), the fender flairs at €4,760 ($5,063), the roof rack at €2,900 ($3,084), the LED light bar at €900 ($957) and the extra LEDs at the front, €1,800 ($1,914). Add it all up and the total cost of the conversion is €15,860 ($16,859).

Given how well electric motors are suited to off-road use thanks to their near-infinite levels of adjustability, we’re somewhat surprised that Tesla itself hasn’t produced an off-road-focused variant of any of its existing models, particularly the Model Y and Model X. Sure, the Cybertruck should be capable of some level of off-roading but its massive size will make it unusable on tight and technical tracks. Were Tesla to build a Model Y that looks a little like Delta4x4’s creation, we’re sure it would sell very well.
