A new dedicated Waze app has just been launched for vehicles with Android Automotive infotainment systems.
While the Waze app has been available through Android Auto for many years, it remained absent from Android Automotive systems which power the whole infotainment of some vehicles. Waze will be first introduced on the Renault Austral Hybrid and Renault Megane E-Tech throughout Europe.

The app has all of the same great features as it does when used on smartphones, including real-time navigation, routing, and alerts.
“As more Waze users engage with us on in-car platforms and we see advancements in in-car technologies, it’s important that we bring the best driving experiences to our users, which is why we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Renault,” the director of marketing and partnerships at Waze, Aron Di Castro said. “Having Waze’s real-time navigation, routing and alerts built into the display of Renault’s vehicles, makes for a simplified and seamless driving experience. We’re looking forward to bringing this excellent driving experience to more users across the globe in 2023.”
Owners of Renault Austral Hybrid and Megane E-Tech models will be able to download Waze for their OpenR infotainment system through Google Play on the in-vehicle display or from their My Renault mobile app.
“Renault is the first car manufacturer to offer Waze directly on the vehicle’s multimedia screen, without activating the smartphone,” the director of Digital Customer at Renault, Jerome Seror added. “We know many Waze users will enjoy this new feature when they drive the Nouvel Austral and Renault Megane E-Tech electric as part of our continued commitment to offer our customers an intuitive, immersive and connected driving experience.”
