Like a caterpillar slowly transforming into a butterfly, the 2024 Audi A4 Avant is shedding its camouflage cocoon.
The redesigned wagon is expected to debut later this year and it will sport an evolutionary, but streamlined design. The changes are immediately apparent as the upcoming model sports a wider grille that is flanked by angular headlights. They’re joined by vertical air curtains as well as a pronounced central intake.
Moving down the sides, designers went with a sharp shoulder line and flush-mounted door handles. They’re joined by an upward sweeping beltline and what appears to be an evolutionary greenhouse. We can also see a sloping roof and previous pictures have suggested the wagon could be equipped with a massive panoramic glass roof.
While this prototype closely resembles the others, it’s notable for featuring production taillights. As you can see, the redesigned A4 will adopt slender lighting units that appear to be connected by an illuminated strip.
The rest of the rear end is more evolutionary, but the model has been equipped with minimalist reflectors and what appears to be a classier rear bumper. We can also get a glimpse at what seems to be the production exhaust system.
Previous spy photos have shown the changes will continue in the cabin with a freestanding digital instrument cluster and a floating infotainment system. We can also expect a new steering wheel, slender air vents, and a revamped center console with a Q4-like shifter.
Engine options remain a closely guarded secret, but we can expect a mix of petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options. The latter are set to focus on efficiency and performance as plug-in hybrid powertrains are expected to be found in both mainstream variants as well as the range-topping RS4 Avant.
