The teaser campaign for the North American 2024 Mazda CX-90 continues and they’ve finally opened a box that doesn’t make us want to return to sender.
In particular, the company revealed their flagship crossover will be offered with an all-new 3.3-liter e-Skyactiv Turbo inline-six. While that’s a mouthful, the engine will produce 340 hp (254 kW / 345 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque when running on premium gasoline, which is recommended.
Mazda said this makes it their “most powerful gasoline engine” to date and promised it will deliver an “engaging driving experience with a rewarding exhaust note.” The automaker also confirmed the engine will feature mild-hybrid technology for improved fuel efficiency.

Besides the inline-six, Mazda will offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The company hasn’t said much about this variant, but has previously stated it will be “performance-oriented” and “tuned specifically for the North American market.” That isn’t much to go on, but the CX-60 PHEV provides some possible clues as it features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This setup gives the model a combined output of 323 hp (241 kW / 328 PS) and 368 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.
Regardless of the plug-in hybrid’s specifications, Mazda said the CX-90 will have a rear-biased all-wheel drive system that provides a “performance-focused experience.” The automaker went on to say the three-row crossover will come standard with Kinematic Posture Control technology to ensure Mazda’s “signature driving dynamics” are maintained.
