Alfa Romeo plans to go big or go home with future EVs as it seeks to expand further into non-European markets. That will mean adding a new, larger vehicle to its lineup to appeal to North American consumers, according to CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato.
Although the body shape of the vehicle was not elaborated on, the E-segment is traditionally considered to contain the likes of the Mercedes E-Class, the BMW 5-Series, and the Audi A6. Currently, Alfa Romeo’s largest sedan, the Giulia, competes with the C-Class, 3-Series, and A4, while the Stelvio is similarly sized in the realm of SUVs.
“We will have to be in the E-segment in North America,” Imparato told Automotive News, pointing to the need for an even larger vehicle. “We are working on that.”

That will coincide with Alfa Romeo’s plans to expand its sales in foreign markets, as it hopes to deliver 40 percent of its vehicles to markets outside of Europe by 2030. By contrast, in 2021, just 18 percent of the brand’s sales came from customers on other continents.
Additionally, the brand wants to go all-electric by 2027 in all markets, including the U.S. That suggests that Imparato’s new E-segment vehicle will have an electric powertrain. The good news for fans of the brand is that he understands that the brand’s mission is to remain sporty, even when it goes electric. That will mean power ranging from 350 hp to 800 hp in regular cars, and up to 1,000 hp for its highest-performance Quadrifoglio vehicles.
Imparato did not specify whether the new model would be a sedan or an SUV but said that the shift to electric vehicles will prioritize aerodynamics.
