This story contains independent renderings of a Giulietta created by Theottle, who’s neither related to nor endorsed by Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo killed the Giulietta compact hatchback, indirectly replacing it with the Tonale SUV. However, fans of the Italian brand are still dreaming of the new generation that never saw the light of day. Digital artist Theophilus Chin (a.k.a. Theottle) envisioned a new Giulietta in both hatchback and sedan forms, borrowing styling cues from the rest of the Alfa Romeo range.

For his latest renderings, Theottle used the profile of the Giulia sedan as a base, shortening the wheelbase and the front and rear overhangs. In order to create a hatchback silhouette, he added bits and pieces from the Stelvio including the rear side windows and the tailgate. The front and rear ends however are directly sourced from the newer Tonale, which is closer to the hypothetical Giulietta in terms of footprint.

While the face of the Tonale is better suited in an SUV than in a low-slung hatchback, the large bumper intakes make it look like a Quadrifoglio hot hatch. Besides the five-door model, Theottle created a four-door sedan, which in our eyes is the prettiest looking of the two – especially when it comes to its rear end design. The slim LEDs of the Tonale look great in a compact sedan, together with Giulia’s integrated spoiler and the clean lines of the rear bumper with dual exhaust pipes.

In theory, the powertrain options could be borrowed from the Tonale, including mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid mills producing between 128 hp (96 kW / 130 PS) and 276 hp (206 kW / 280 PS). After all, the latter is based on a revised version of the FCA architecture that was also used by the discontinued Giulietta.

Alfa Romeo’s plan includes several new models including a small electric SUV and luxury vehicles that will compete in larger segments, but a new Giulietta is not one of them. While Theottle’s renderings are pure fiction, such a model would allow Alfa Romeo to compete with the Audi A3 (hatch, sedan), the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, and the BMW 1-Series / 2-Series GranCoupe in the premium compact segment.
