There are rare cars, and then there are Koenigseggs. The mad-scientist’s “mega car,” the Swedish brand has earned a reputation for its sci-fi technology and its mechanical engineer that seems to defy logic.
Unfortunately, the nature of such vehicles means that they are highly expensive, and extremely rare. Bloomberg reported in 2021 that the company made around 35 vehicles per year, a number it had to build its way up to over the course of more than two decades.
As a result, the brand has built a very small number of cars over the course of its existence. That means that they’re about as hard to find in the wild as a spotted snow leopard. I, someone who attends car shows professionally, have never seen one in the flesh, never mind out on the road.
If you want to see one in public, though, the Ghost Squadron is here to help. The Instagram account has released its Koenigsegg Map for 2022 with the help of the Koenigsegg Jesko Registry (two independent enthusiast organizations that claim no affiliation to the automaker) to show where in the world the cars can be found.

And there are a few notable takeaways. First and foremost, the part of the world colored gray (meaning there are no known Koenigseggs) is enormous, covering the majority of the world by landmass, so don’t feel bad if, like me, you’ve never seen a Koenigsegg out on the road.
The hotbeds of Koenigsegg activity, though, are in the U.K., Germany, the U.A.E., Sweden (unsurprising since this is a Swedish automaker), and the U.S. All are colored red, meaning there are 10 or more Koenigseggs known to reside there. Indeed, California alone has more than 10 of the cars, according to the Ghost Squadron, making it more Koenigsegg dense than 97 percent of all countries.
It’s hardly surprising, though, that there are American customers with the means and the tastes to buy Koenigseggs. What is rather more surprising is that there are so few buyers in China. Although it is among the more Koenigsegg-dense countries on earth, the map claims that there are just five to nine of the cars in the country, which is a surprise for the wealthy, car-mad country with more than a billion people.
These aren’t the only places to find Koenigseggs, though. If you’re very lucky, there are a few countries on nearly every continent (sorry, South America), where there are at least a few of the cars to be found.
