The first 2024 Ford Mustang GT has been sold for $490,000 (£396,880 / €451,682) at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction. However, thanks to additional donations, the car brought in a total of $565,000 (£457,700 / €521,043).

That’s an impressive result and it beats the 2019 Mustang Bullitt VIN 001 that went for $300,000 a few years ago. However, it falls far short of the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 which brought in a whopping $1.1 million.

Regardless, the real winner is JDRF, which is better known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. They’ll be receiving the full $565,000 and this will go towards diabetes research and advocacy.

As for the winning bidder, they’ll receive Ford’s latest pony car which features an all-new design as well as a fourth-generation 5.0-liter Coyote V8 that can be paired to either a six-speed manual or a ten-speed automatic transmission.  The engine sports a new dual throttle body induction system and this helps it to develop 480 hp (358 kW / 487 PS) and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque, although an optional active performance exhaust boosts the output to 486 hp (362 kW / 493 PS) and 418 lb-ft (566 Nm).

Besides the new and improved V8, the 2024 Mustang GT offers a Performance Pack that includes a strut tower brace, a limited slip differential, Brembo brakes, and an auxiliary engine oil cooler.  Customers can also get a MagneRide active suspension and Recaro seats.

Performance aside, the 2024 Mustang gets a high-tech makeover thanks to a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and an available 13.2-inch infotainment system.  They’re joined by an upgraded interior with higher quality materials and minimalist switchgear.

Ford hasn’t revealed pricing at this point, but the 2024 Mustang will arrive at dealerships this summer.
