VIN number 001 of the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV just raised $500,000 for Tread Lightly! at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. The non-profit will receive the entire hammer price which comes in at some $2 million less than the very first Hummer EV pickup back in 2021.
The SUV version of the Hummer EV is largely similar to the truck but only now is it finally coming online. The Edition 1 trim level comes with 4WD, 830 hp, 800-volt architecture, and a nine-inch shorter wheelbase.
The new owner of the very first one off of the line gets the added benefit of knowing that they’ve helped out a charity that focuses on healthy ecosystems. Specifically, Tread Lightly! says that this funding will go directly towards trail restoration and educational programs.

“We can’t thank the GMC brand and Barrett-Jackson enough for this amazing support,” said Matt Caldwell, Executive Director of Tread Lightly! “This funding will make numerous trail restorations projects and educational programs possible in areas across the country. These projects are at the heartbeat of what we do as we work to ‘protect the adventure’ for everyone.”
Somewhat surprisingly, the Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV went for a whopping $2 million less than its truck counterpart. Back in 2021, an unnamed individual slapped down $2.5 million to take home VIN 001 of the production run. GMC made a statement after the auction focusing on their commitment to sustainability and the environment.
“We’re proud to support Tread Lightly! and their mission through the monumental sale of VIN 001 of the GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 SUV at Barrett-Jackson,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick and GMC. “We’re honored to start the year off with this donation to a great cause. With the continued support of Barrett-Jackson to make this donation 100 percent a charitable endeavor, proceeds will support Tread Lightly! and their mission of environmental conservation.”
Now that the auction is over and more Hummer EV Edition 1 SUVs are rolling off the line it’s only a matter of time before we see the first few show up on the used-car market. Will they end up with the huge premiums that we saw when the Hummer EV truck started flipping? Only time will tell.
