Marco Garcia recently went viral after suffering a heartbreaking engine failure in his 52-mile 2023 Corvette Z06. Although it was a saga, the owner now says that he and Chevrolet have come to an agreement that he is satisfied with.

Garcia posted another video to YouTube last week, saying that he had been in contact with the automaker, which provided him with three options. The new owner could a) get a full refund for his car, b) obtain a new build slot, or c) get a new engine along with a discount and a 100k Platinum extended warranty.

Unfortunately, because of the high demand for the new cross-plane crank V8-powered supercar, in order to get the next available build slot, he would have to wait six months, while it would take Chevy two months to have a new engine ready for him. Garcia opted for choice number three; repair and discount.

“So, based on the amount of time that I was going to be waiting for my car to be back up, I decided to ask them for an even bigger discount than what they initially offered to me,” said Garcia in the video. “They went, and they had a little meeting, came back a few minutes later and agreed.”

In addition, Garcia said he’s getting a Platinum Protection Plan that covers the Z06 bumper-to-bumper for 100,000 miles. The car originally came with a 3-year, 36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty though, GM has said that it would cancel warranties for vehicles that are flipped within the first 12 months of ownership.

In his first video on the subject (which has now been taken down, along with other videos about the issue), Garcia said he paid more than $180,000 for the car from a dealership. That price made the quick breakdown (after less than a day of ownership) particularly galling, because he paid about $50,000 over sticker thanks to dealer markups. Despite that, Garcia says he’s now happy with how the story has resolved.

“So, I’m very happy, I’m very excited. I’m just bummed about having to wait two additional months,” he said. “So that’s it. They took care of me, so for me the matter is closed. I’m very happy with the outcome.”

Apparently Garcia hasn’t been completely turned off the idea of waiting for performance, though, because he says that he will now start ordering parts to tune his Corvette Z06 once the engine is in place.
