The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray builds on what is an already-impressive mid-engined supercar and Carlos Lago from Car and Driver had the opportunity to check it out in person at the unveiling.
We knew that a hybrid variant of the Corvette was coming from before even the standard C8-generation ‘Vette debuted back in 2019. What Chevrolet has cooked up is a vehicle driven primarily by a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 that has been supplemented by a 160 hp and 125 lb-ft (170 Nm) electric motor at the front wheels. The car delivers a combined 655 hp and can rocket to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.5 seconds.

During this clip, Lago describes that the Corvette E-Ray comes standard with carbon ceramic brakes and that it features the same basic wide body package as the new Z06. We are also provided with the opportunity to see the battery positioned in the transmission tunnel, running right through the center of the cabin. Lago also showcases some of the suspension changes that had to be made to accommodate the half shafts needed up front so the electric motor can transmit its power to the wheels.
This video also shows Lago going for a passenger ride in the new Corvette E-Ray. We get a brief glimpse of the car’s available Stealth Mode where it can run purely on electric power over short distances. The engineer behind the wheel also performed a standing start with the launch control, demonstrating just how brutally quick the E-Ray is. He then goes on to perform some very impressive drifts in the car.
